Marriage equality advocates have congratulated the couple on their pending nuptials but say they should be able to marry in Australia.Australian Marriage Equality (AME) national director, Rodney Croome, said, "It's wonderful that Anthony and Tim have decided to tie the knot but frustrating that they have to travel to New Zealand to do it and that their vows won't be recognised when they return. The couple have been an item for seven years but only decided to get married recently, with Tim popping the question on a quiet night at home. The pair plan to wed in an intimate ceremony in New Zealand, where same-sex marriage is legal.

"Anthony and Tim will join many hundreds of other Australian same-sex couples who have been forced to choose between marriage and home, thanks to our outdated Marriage Act." Hundreds of Australian same-sex couples have flocked to New Zealand to wed since the nation introduced marriage equality in August 2013.Currently Greens Senator, Sarah Hanson-Young has a bill before a senate inquiry that if passed would see overseas same-sex marriages given full status as marriages in Australian law.
