They use a network of other scammers to help build on this lie until the women send them money or other items.
They befriend them using stolen photos of American Soldiers, some are even using photos of our KIAs.
They purposely target women that have no idea how the armed services works, and they spend months talking to them and making them believe they are in love.
Facebook has thousands upon thousands of these fake profiles, and they are easy to pick out.
I am not sure why they aren't doing more to combat it.
